twitter

189770.jpgTwitter is one of those things I’ve still not really got a good handle on yet. I can see it being used all over the world by all sorts of people, from Barrack Obama to (insert your favourite blogger here), but using it regularly seems to open a window on one’s life that I’m not sure I’m completely comfortable with.

From my point of view I have no inclination to share very personal information with literally anyone that clicks ‘follow’ on my Twitter feed – a lot of people use it exactly like this, for sure, and I guess that it helps to bring one’s Twitter followers into your life a little more, making that personal connection that can be so positive in cultivating both personal and professional relationships. However, I have to draw a line somewhere so don’t expect to see detailed updates on what I’m making for lunch!

Where I see it really benefitting me and my work is if I build up a community of followers and people whom I follow myself, and use Twitter more professionally to post updates about what I’m working on or relevant thoughts or queries. This is how I intend to use it, and I’ll keep the navel gazing and menu musing for Facebook where only my long-suffering friends have to be subjected to such banal ramblings! ;)

So from today there’s a feed of my latest Twitter updates in the sidebar on the right of the front page, and there’s a ‘tweet this’ button beneath every post in case you feel the need to share any of my insightful gems with the world.

Now, what shall I have for lunch?
