Carters Steam Fair was in town a couple of weeks ago and Hollie and I went to see it. Hollie was really excited because she's not been to a fair in years and all her previous boyfriends were apparently way too cool and macho to take her. Not so I!
If there's one thing I will not go on, though, it's the things that you sit in that spin round and round, while on an arm that flies them up and down connected to a spindle that whizzes all the arms around and around. Sorry, that's my idea of hell. Unfortunately, Carters Steam Fair is of a time when that was all that fairs consisted of and so the only things that appealed to me were the dodgems, the helter skelter and the coconut shy/rifle range etc. However, Hollie used her wily female ways to get me on one of those things that you sit in that spin round and round while on an arm that... you get the picture.
It was fun for all of, oooh, 10 seconds? After that the remaining minute or so on it was spent with me gripping the rail like my life depended on it, groaning painfully as our arm descended and g-force whipped our car around, trying and failing to find anything to focus on and hoping not to vomit up my lunch. As we got off it was all I could manage to give a feeble smile of enjoyment to the attendant and then I simply staggered blindly to the nearest quiet spot to sit and be still. Unfortunately, after that I had no desire to go on anything else whatsoever, not even the coconut shy.
I felt terrible. Hollie went on something that spins you up in the air, upside down and back down again, and the helter skelter, and then she was happy to go home. On the way I had to lie down on Barnes Common and, yes, throw up a bit. I didn't feel right again for several hours. I'm such a wimp. The thing is, I really love rollercoasters! :)
So, this image was taken well before my little 'episode' on the whirly spinny thing... It's been treated like it was cross-processed with a curve, and my good ol' vignette action.
